Join Me in my Journey

April 3, 2008

"Join Me in My Journey" includes a compilation of Jeannette's travels to the Middle East, at an age and time when foreign women are hardly permitted to enter and work in such restricted countries. Her personal account and self-discoveries of most parts of Europe, North America, Australasia, Asia (including South East Asia and the Middle East) are some of the highlights of her journey. Such personality is manifested in her book: wicked humour, passion for ballroom dancing and sumptuous dinners, a DIY enthusiast, her loyalty to family and enthusiasm in her charity works complete the outstanding features of this book.

This is an entertaining story of universal interest not only to the 10 million Filipinos living abroad, to those at home that can only dream of travel and uplifting their condition but to all who love or are interested in the Philippines.

It is a lighthearted romp around the world telling how, from modest circumstances in Manila, the author fakes a birth certificate at 16 and goes to Saudi Arabia to fly for an airline, travelling the Muslim world with all its perils for a young girl. Later she completes her education, marries a banker and travels all over Asia from the backwoods of Vietnam, when she is six months pregnant, to Nepal, China, Australia, Thailand etc. Along the way she meets Presidents, Prime Ministers and courtesans.

She has digs at Philippine society, the good and the bad, the political situation, the expat crowd, but all with a lighthearted touch. The message is simple enjoy life and good things can happen.
